Preview: The Lords Of Salem

It would be a lie to say that I particularly enjoy Rob Zombie’s musical work (it needs less shouting, more glitter), but there is no denying that he is one of the most exciting directors working in the horror genre at the moment. The Devil’s Rejects and his inventive re-imaging of the Halloween series (no carbon copy remakes here) are some of the most entertaining genre pictures in recent years. Also let us not forget the genius Werewolf Women of the S.S (his contribution to the Tarantino/Rodriguez’ Grindhouse) starring his wife, Sheri Moon plus unhinged A-Lister, Nicolas Cage and genre favourite Udo Kier.

Sheri Moon Zombie headlines this tale of a modern local radio DJ, who receives a mysterious record that reads “a gift from the Lords”. After playing the record, the radio station receive an invitation to host a gig in the town of Salem – however it seems they may be falling into a trap lay by bloodthirsty witches.

Of course the synopsis sounds ridiculous, but the thought of seeing a Salem set horror is quite exciting. Considering the occult subject matter, the Witches of Salem feel like an underused staple in the horror genre – and we all know that we can’t settle for Hocus Pocus all the time.

Chuck in possibly the ‘cultiest’ cult film cast of your favourite B-Movie stars – including Udo Kier, Sid Haig, Patricia Quinn, Judy Geeson, Clint Howard, Dee Wallace, Bruce Davison, Billy Drago and the late Richard Lynch, and you’ve got a sure-fire classic.

Lords of Salem is expected this year, most likely around Halloween time. In the meantime here are a selection of stills from Ace Showbiz & Dread Central.
