Swedish artist Andreas Wijk has two reasons to celebrate this weekend: reaching the Melodifestivalen 2021 final with Klara Hammarström’s Beat of Broken Hearts which he co-writes, and the release of his latest single square one. Andreas’ new single, released through Universal Music, is an emotive anthem that sees the singer showcase an admirable sense of vulnerability against gorgeous piano-driven melodies.
Andreas shared some of the inspiration behind the track: “It’s actually my most transparent song I’ve ever released. It’s about being with someone and then suddenly you’re back at square one, everything you thought you had built up is gone. It’s me pouring my heart out in a way that I’ve never done before.“
square one delivers some truly heartfelt lyrics as it explores how a relationship can go from everything to nothing in a short space of time. Andreas fills the track with a real conviction, shining against the gradually-building piano melodies which incorporate some gentle electronic effects for added impact. The track is written and produced by Andreas and Carl-Philip Ström.
square one follows Andreas’ somebody to love which was released last November.
