Mariette’s Melodifestivalen submissions have made her a firm Culture Fix favourite with Shout It Out, For You, A Million Years, and Don’t Stop Believing shining as impeccable examples of Scandinavian pop. The singer returns with emotional new track The One That Got Away, which marks a new chapter in her musical career.
The singer notes: “The song “The One That Got Away” is the beginning of a personal journey where I and the listener get to know me better through my music as I express myself even more intimately and genuinely. I dare to be honest with myself, it’s ok to feel, to think back, dream and talk about difficulties. We develop by opening our hearts. Through my music I get to explore both history and future. I believe that we need to trust that we are allowed to feel both extremely vulnerable as well as being the strongest in the world. Together and by yourself.”
Written by Mariette with Calle Johansson, Emelie Eriksson, and Jacob Redtzer, and produced by Calle and Jakob, The One That Got Away is a tender pop ballad that deals with moving on from heartbreak. “You slipped from me, out of my hands, so why am I holding on…” Mariette sings against mellow multi-instrumentation and soaring backing vocal effects.
