Layke accompanies her socially-conscious electronic pop anthem Going Out on a High with a space-themed new video. The track from the openly bi/pan singer celebrates the idea that although life feels bleak, we still have dance, movement and love to keep us going.
The singer spoke a little bit more about the message behind her galaxy-spanning pop track: “Going Out On a High” has something to say and makes you wanna move. It’s a socially conscious/political song which very much speaks to the current political climate in the U.S. (and the world). Written at a tumultuous time when people are polarized and human rights are under threat every single day, it’s a song for the marginalized and for those that fight to make this world a better place, even in the face of danger and violent opposition. For those that are not going to stand idly by and watch them tear down our world and tear down the beings living in it.“
The chorus in particular is centred around “that moment where you’re looking into someone’s eyes and saying let’s dance and take it all in because it could be all we have but if it is it’s going to be amazing.” This is evident in the gorgeous imagery crafted by the track including ‘explosions in your eyes’ and ‘dance until the end of time.’
With deep rooted sentiment in the LGBTQ+ community, Layke draws inspirations from classic rockers Freddie Mercury and Garbage’s Shirley Manson for her progressive pop anthems – more of which will feature on her upcoming January-scheduled project Frequency. You can connect with her below:
