British pop icons Steps‘ upcoming studio album What the Future Holds is one of the main things pushing us through 2020. The group bless us with their second taste of the album after the release of the title track lead single, this time the 80s inspired Under My Skin.
The track is something quite sonically different from Steps’ usual musical style, yet still has all the hallmarks of a classic Steps’ anthem. Produced by Julian Gingell and Barry Stone, Under My Skin sees the group sing: “I just want you near, I want you to stay, But if you come too close, my edges will fray, I won’t let you in and show you my pain, I’d rather lie here in the darkness,” in the track which speaks about the act of being truly 100% vulnerable in love.
With Lee, H, Faye, Claire and HRH Queen of Life Lisa Scott Lee all getting their chance to shine vocally against rousing mid-tempo production, with the track’s sentimentality and hints of woodwind feeling like that of the soundtrack to a classic eighties movie.
Stream the track above. Pre-order What the Future Holds before its release on November 27th.
