Openly gay British country star Tommy Atkins delivers his first EP Kiss Me, Cowboy today. The four track EP contains Tommy’s three successful singles Freedom, Cinderella’s Had a Drink, and Wild in the Wind. The tracks will be joined by the impressive title track – for which Culture Fix has the exciting, exclusive visualiser featuring artwork from artist Andiboy.
Tommy notes: “I am so proud of these songs and the world-class musicians that have brought them to life in the studio. I hope everyone can find something of themselves in these stories of life and love and the loss of both.”
The title track is a particular standout for us in particular tackling themes of homophobia and first loves in the gay community. Like all great country songs, Tommy’s impressive songwriting captures an engaging story ensuring we’re fully invested. Backed with gorgeous production from the Nashville-based Dr Ford. Tommy spoke about Kiss Me, Cowboy’s particular importance as an LGBTQ+ country release:
“I have a totally supportive family, but a lot of people I’ve known didn’t have that growing up. Often an LGBTQ+ person will discover this when they come out to their family after falling in love for the first time. So not only are they dealing with the rollercoaster of emotions that young love brings, but they’re also dealing with rejection from those they were raised by. It’s a lot, and I wanted to write a song that spoke to that.”
Fans will also enjoy the swinging contemporary country anthem Cinderella’s Had a Drink – a boozy country spin on the classic fairytale. Tommy’s debut single Wild in the Wind also features, which he adds: “It mourns the loss of a friend but focuses on being grateful for that person ever being in your life. I hope this song can provide comfort and make you smile, even if there is a tear in your eye.” The EP also includes Tommy’s May released single Freedom.
