Mel Gibson tackles a hurricane, Puerto Rican gangsters, and a New York accent in the upcoming Lionsgate DTV (or DTD – direct to digital?) survival action film, Force of Nature. Teaming up with Kate Bosworth and Emile Hirsch, the project sees him star as a retired police officer refusing to leave his home when a category five hurricane strikes. Check out the full synopsis below:
“A gang of thieves plan a heist during a hurricane and encounter trouble when a cop tries to force everyone in the building to evacuate.”
The project has garnered some criticism for appearing tone-deaf in the wake of the 2017 disaster of Hurricane Maria. We’d argue that Mel Gibson’s recent pictures aren’t known for their finesse and delicacies. This is escapist silliness and isn’t seeking to paint itself as a detailed glimpse into the horrors faced by hurricane survivors.
Force of Nature drops on home video and digital release on June 30th.
