Trailer: Frank Grillo in 'The Purge: Election Year'

The quietly brilliant Purge series has improved with each successive outing, so we have high expectations for the third film in Blumhouse horror series, titled, The Purge: Election Year. Lead star of the Carpenter-esque The Purge: Anarchy, Frank Grillo returns with the film's director James DeMonaco once again taking the reins.

It’s been two years since Leo Barnes (Frank Grillo) stopped himself from a regrettable act of revenge on Purge Night. Now serving as head of security for Senator Charlie Roan (Elizabeth Mitchell), his mission is to protect her in a run for president and survive the annual ritual that targets the poor and innocent. But when a betrayal forces them onto the streets of D.C. on the one night when no help is available, they must stay alive until dawn…or both be sacrificed for their sins against the state.

With the buff Daddy charms of Grillo and DeMonaco's vice-like tension returning, we're super excited for Election Year. Plus, it's even more terrifying as a glimpse into an America under a Ted Cruz presidency.

The Purge 3: Election Year hits cinemas July 4th
