PREVIEW: Scott Adkins in El Gringo

The latest action venture from Joel Silver's After Dark productions, El Gringo, has us incredibly excited. Silver's productions are the ultimate action guilty pleasures from the likes of Dolph Lundgren hostage thriller, Stash House to Jim Caviezel vehicle, Transit - which are not redefining the genre but simply providing a bit of throwaway fun.

Directed by Eduardo Rodriguez (Stash House), El Gringo sees a mysterious stranger (Scott Adkins) cross the border into Mexico complete with a satchel containing $2m and a dark past. He is soon greeted with hostility and contempt by the local villagers who launch an attack on the stranger.

Scott Adkins is fast becoming one of our favourite action stars - the British stuntman turned actor thoroughly impressed alongside Jean-Claude Van Damme in Assassination Games, and once again starring alongside the Belgian supremo in The Expendables 2. We're excited to see what Adkins can do in both the upcoming Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning and El Gringo. Adkins is both a solid actor and a convincing, likeable action hero - and obviously it doesn't hurt the handsome star dons a tight white vest throughout El Gringo.

El Gringo looks set to boast a similar aesthetic to the Mexican set work of Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino, and seems to be directed in a similarly exciting fashion. Chuck in Christian Slater as a trusty police Lieutenant for good measure and there you have it - a solid action film.

El Gringo will be arriving on DVD and Blu-Ray on the 25th February 2013. You can check out the trailer below.
